Sustainable Development Goals
An end to extreme poverty, hunger, inequality, injustice and climate change. A peaceful, fair and sustainable world. This is what the United Nations wants to achieve by 2030 through 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Together with our parent company, Green Sparkle, we wholeheartedly support these goals. With ‘business as a force for good’ as our premise, we contribute to achieving the SDGs, not only through our working method but also by sharing knowledge and bringing parties together. A firm focus on several SDGs has therefore been embedded in our strategic ambitions.
Six sustainability themes
We have formulated six sustainability themes related to the 17 SDGs, the first three of which are ‘planet-related’: climate, biodiversity and natural resources. We have linked specific goals to these themes. By 2020, our business operations will be completely energy neutral, 90% of our plants will be GAP-certified and we will have drastically reduced the use of plastic in the supply chain and increased the percentage of recycling.
Of course, sustainability is also about people; society, too, deserves our attention. We have embedded our social commitment in three ‘people-related’ themes: working conditions, society and employees. The Royal Lemkes Foundation focuses on improving the living environment and working conditions at home and abroad. In addition, we make our knowledge of agriculture and horticulture available free of charge and grant microcredits. Closer to home, we donate unsold plants to care homes and food banks.
